Basic Info.: Fingerprint scanning works by capturing an electronic images of a users fingerprint called a token. Tokens can represent an electronic image or mathematical calculation based upon the users finger. Generally, scanners connect to host PC's via USB that powers the devices. Tokens are transmitted to a security authentication app loaded on the host PC and is validated against tokens stored in a database located either remotely or locally.
